North Sheffield Public Realm Regeneration Art Project, Sheffield
(Nov 08 – Ongoing)
North Sheffield Regeneration Team commissioned the creation of an artist-led strategy that would address the need for practical improvements to the public realm in a creative way as part of a major HMR scheme in the area. Working as part of a team of artists under the name ‘Y SO?’ we have had the opportunity to devise proposals for a series of permanent artworks across the neighbourhoods of Firth Park and Wincobank, in collaboration with artists Gordon Young and Anna Sandberg. The total value of this project is approx £350k.
Based on concepts of improving health, wellbeing and social cohesion through encouraging play in public spaces, we are currently carrying out eleven hard and soft landscape projects in collaboration local artists and residents. Each project is bespoke to its location and tells a story about the space’s past and present uses. Extensive consultation and engagement work is ongoing to involve local groups and individuals in the design and realisation of these unique artworks, which are due for completion by the end of 2010.
